Countdown to Leopard
Apple has already started their countdown to the release of the latest Mac OS, which will be in less than an hour as of posting time. Unfortunately this only adds to my confusion as to whether or not I should invest in upgrading this time around. I've heard numerous views; some people think it's an absolutely groundbreaking OS, but others contend that besides Time Machine, it's just a bunch of GUI enhancements that aren't worth the $130 Apple is charging (side note: I find it interesting that the most powerful OS in the world costs less than half as much as Microsoft's desperately sub-par Windows OS). Personally I'm extremely satisfied with Tiger and am more than willing to wait for a price drop (iPhone, anyone?). Thus I extend the dilemma to my Mac-using readers (all three of them) to see if I'm not alone in this opinion.
And for you Windows people, get a Mac.

I am typing this comment on a fresh install of Leopard on my PowerBook. I suppose that exposes where I am on the issue.

Haha I'm not at all surprised. How's Leopard as far as backward compatibility? Another reason I'm hesitating to upgrade is that I'm not sure if Sibelius will work with Leopard; it took Avid long enough to include Intel Mac support. And are you still with Firefox? I'm feeling somewhat tempted to switch to Safari 3, but I still keep coming back to Firefox.

I've hit no compatibility issues with Leopard thus far, though some of the programs I use have been updated in the last few days in preparation for the new Cat. Since you don't seem to be in a hurry to upgrade it may be worth an email to Avid about Sibelius. And I have actually been using more and more Safari 3 these days. It seems a bit more snappy, though Gmail and Gcal are still best in Firefox.
